Biography: Former pro-Rector for Research of the University of Milan Bicocca. For the period 2011-2013 he was chairman of the Division of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI). He is a member of the National Academy of Lincei (Rome), the Academia Europaea (London), the European Academy of Science (Liege), and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. 

Research Interests: Insulating and Semiconducing Oxides, Defects and Dopants in Oxides, Supported Metal Clusters on Inorganic Surfaces, Two-dimensional Oxides (Ultrathin Films), Electronic and Structural Properties of Oxide Heterojunctions. Photocatalysis, heterogeneous catalysis, catalysis by single atoms. 

Biography: Livia Giordano is an associate professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca since 2021. She obtained her PhD in Materials Science from the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2002 and was appointed research associate in the same department in 2007. In 2013 she joined the Electrochemical and Energy Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was appointed Research Scientist from 2016 to 2021.

Research interests: Livia Giordano’s research focuses on first-principles calculations of interfacial phenomena and reaction mechanisms to inform material design in electrochemistry and heterogenous catalysis. Her interests include reactivity of oxides surfaces, oxide thin films, metal-oxide, and oxide-liquid interfaces.

Biography: He obtained his PhD in Chemistry in 2007 from the University of Torino. He worked as a postdoc at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the University of Barcelona. In Bicocca since 2013, he was appointed research associate in 2016 and associate professor in 2022.

Research Interests: Insulating and Semiconducing Oxides, Supported Metal Clusters on Inorganic Surfaces, Two-dimensional Oxides (Ultrathin Films) and Dichalcogenides, Materials for Batteries.

Biography: He graduated at the University of Milan in 2015 where he also got his PhD in Chemistry in 2019. He then joined prof. Pacchioni's group at the University of Milano Bicocca, where he was appointed research associate in 2020. He spent some months as a visiting researcher within the HPC Europe program at the University of Barcelona under the supervision of prof. Francesc Illas.
